1st Day in Desert Heat

Bill started his Double Badwater with Mt. Whitney summit this morning at 6am PST. This race is in Death Valley in California. It is going to be difficult getting detailed updates to everyone, since there is little to no cell phone service. There are two vans with 3 crew members each; 3 members are either following behind Bill at all times, while the other is out getting more supplies or resting at the closest motel. Bill is doing well and staying strong. Having raced in this heat before, he is pretty comfortable with what to expect this time around.

Yesterday, I had mentioned how Bill visited the portal at Mt. Whitney, well he was able to get some information on the predicted weather for when he summits the mountain. He is hoping to be able to wear tennis shoes and shorts, rather than dress for snow and cold temperatures. His team is keeping him hydrated and making sure he gets enough calories in to keep him energized.

This picture to the left is Bill when he started this morning. I will post more once I can get more details on Bill's status.
